Thousands of Europeans migrate to Spain

Thousands of citizens of many European cities such as Belgium, Germany, and Britain have moved to Spain at a time when northern Europe is suffering from high energy prices due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Caleb was the main destination for these immigrants, either permanently or seasonally during the winter month to enjoy the warm weather that does not require providing energy sources for heating.
The municipality is now home to residents of 98 different nationalities.

European immigration to Spain has increased significantly in recent years, according to official statistics. The Belgians are the largest community in Spain, and they have opened their own projects such as restaurants, butcher shops, beauty salons, and even real estate agencies.

The lower cost of living in Spain in general compared to the Nordic countries is a great advantage for those moving there.

“Retirees can’t afford to go to a restaurant every day in Belgium, but here they can do it,” says Annie Giddens, president of Friends of Belgium in Caleb. Here we enjoy life.”
